what is re.present
Re.Present is a GALLERY-BOOKING of virtual artists invented by the Chilean artist Guillermo Grebe during the pandemic as an exercise of free invitation of appropriation and authorship to a diversity of styles and proposals that were inhabiting within my own work as a visual artist.
It has no greater claim than to explore an idea that seemed attractive to me as a project or exercise in self-representation from different creative perspectives, including new proposals that I had not experienced until now.
essay, game, experiment
The experiment is a virtual-real test consisting of promoting a BOOKING of virtual artists who produce real works and that could be made visible on the web and social networks as individuals represented under an online Gallery manager management strategy with the purpose of permanent exposure and sale on these channels without providing more information than that of a single artist (the manager in this case) and hiding all information on the existence of others in order to show the public representation as the only profitable channel between work, artist and value.
It is also a game with the Ego and its misplacement in the field of web spaces as intangible and hyper-segmented assets.
the purpose
What I pursue in this experiment is to synthesize the fragility and volatility to which artists in cyberspace and search engines and those interested in buying art through the Internet are exposed.
The sum of sensationalism and how indefinite and indeterminate the offer becomes versus its demand, the determination of intellectual property and its excessive exposure to the point of losing identity and author's seal and the permanent show of pseudo artists on instagram suggested more than a bitter criticism of the desire to play with audiences and what is understood by the "art market" on the internet and social networks.
Finally, this is not digital art as a genre of art, however it is also digital art since all Re.Present creations use digital tools and supports. They do not exist in any gallery either, but they exist as works that can be acquired and that is why the No Re.Present Online Gallery is created, which is the on-demand sales space for each work shown.
Re.Present can be as false as the illusion of believing that seeing art on the web is belonging to an elite that knows about art andit could be so abject and abstract that perhaps one day, in another phase of the project, it could be a real space that re.presents artists from different sides of that world called Google Earth.
